"Contemporary Venus through Selfie"
Se trata de un ambicioso proyecto que plantea una nueva iconografía sobre la Venus actual, representada mediante códigos visuales establecidos en redes sociales. A través de estos, explora la feminidad, el erotismo y la sensualidad contemporánea. Ahora son las mujeres musas, modelos y artistas quienes plasman sus autorretratos y deciden cómo mostrarse al público. ¿Es el selfie una herramienta de empoderamiento femenino o una trampa para la cosificación del cuerpo femenino?
Este proyecto fue becado por la Fundación Vicente y García Corselas, obteniendo el premio de pintura de dicha fundación en 2016. Las obras se ejecutaron de 2015 a 2017. No obstante, el proyecto no podría estar concluso hasta que en 2020 Venus, más viva que nunca, tomó las redes sociales para compartir su proceso, haciéndo públicas imágenes inéditas de este trabajo. "Contemporary Venus through Selfie"
It is an ambitious project that proposes a new iconography on the current Venus, represented by visual codes established on social networks. Through these, it explores femininity, eroticism and contemporary sensuality. Nowadays, it is the female muses, models and artists who capture their self-portraits and decide how to show themselves to the public. Is the selfie a feminine empowerment tool or a trap for the reification of the feminine body?
This project was awarded a grant by the Vicente y García Corselas Foundation, obtaining the painting prize of said foundation in 2016. The works were carried out from 2015 to 2017. However, the project could not be concluded until in 2020 Venus, more alive than never, took social networks to share her process, making unpublished images of this work public.
